Sun Lakes Arizona Living

Sun Lakes, AZ Community

Neighbors Who Care (NWC) is a community organization established in 1994 to support seniors in Sun Lakes and south Chandler. Their mission is to help homebound and frail seniors live safely and comfortably in their own homes. By connecting local volunteers with seniors who need assistance, NWC helps seniors stay independent longer and avoid early moves to assisted living or nursing homes.

What Neighbors Who Care Does

Neighbors Who Care provides friendly, non-medical help tailored to each senior’s needs. Services include giving rides to medical appointments, grocery shopping, delivering meals, doing small home repairs, visiting for companionship, making reassuring phone calls, and supporting caregivers. This kind of assistance helps seniors maintain their dignity, health, and peace of mind.

Who Benefits from Neighbors Who Care

The main beneficiaries are seniors aged 75 and older who live alone, are widowed, or lack family support close by. Many have limited physical abilities or are recovering from illness or surgery. Some are caregivers themselves in need of respite. Volunteers come from the local community, bringing kindness and building personal connections that reduce loneliness and increase safety.

Volunteer Rewards

Volunteering with Neighbors Who Care is rewarding and brings purpose. Volunteers offer companionship and practical support without requiring medical skills. Many volunteers are seasonal residents, but the organization works to recruit year-round helpers to provide steady support for seniors all year long.

Service Area and Coordination

Neighbors Who Care serves a 32-square-mile area covering Sun Lakes and south Chandler, regions with large elderly populations. The program carefully recruits, trains, and coordinates volunteers to ensure seniors receive reliable, compassionate care. They also provide extra help for seniors recently discharged from hospitals to aid recovery.

Getting Involved

If you live in the area and want to help your community, consider volunteering with Neighbors Who Care. Even a few hours a week can make a big difference in a senior’s life. If you know someone who could benefit from these services, the organization can connect them with caring neighbors ready to assist.
